Ideal Parks for a Day Out with Family and Friends | Counselor Realty

It's picnic season in the Twin Cities, so grab your favorite foods and a blanket and choose from any number of gorgeous parks near these Minneapolis homes for sale. Dining outdoors is so enjoyable, especially during a Minnesota summer. National Picnic Month is this July, so take the opportunity to explore some of the best green spaces around town, but fair warning—you may also fall in love with some Saint Paul homes for sale along the way. Here are some of our favorite places to picnic around the Twin Cities.

  • Boom Island Park - 724 Sibley St. NE, Minneapolis, MN 55413
Enjoy a waterfront picnic with skyline views at this gorgeous Minneapolis park known for its well-maintained walking and biking paths, boat dock, and playground. Boom Island Park is about 22.5 acres, so there is plenty of free green space, but shelter rentals are also available for $140 for a half-day and $255 for a full day. Plenty of parking is available too.

  • Beard's Plaisance - 4525 Upton Ave. S, Minneapolis, MN 55410
One of the best parks in the Twin Cities, Beard's Plaisance is 126.2 acres of green space with dedicated picnic area with grills, tennis courts, restrooms, and a nice playground. Enjoy scenic waterfront views and beautifully maintained landscaping. The picnic area can hold up to 80 people and has electricity, so it's a great spot for larger picnics or graduation parties.

  • Minnehaha Regional Park - 4801 S. Minnehaha Drive, Minneapolis, MN 55417
Throw a picnic at Minnehaha Regional Park and then hike to see the breathtaking Minnehaha Falls, a waterfall recognized in a Longfellow poem. This waterfront park has all the amenities you need for a fun day, including hiking trails, disc golf, a wading pool, and numerous picnic shelters and green space. With such amazing scenery, there is no shortage of photo ops, too!

  • Harriet Island - 49 Harriet Island Road, St. Paul, MN 55107
A beautiful St. Paul park with city skyline views, Harriet Island has plenty of picnic tables and a grassy lawn where you can throw the perfect picnic. It's also a great place to watch a sunset. If you're planning a large event, the 5,000-square-foot Clarence W. Wigington Pavilion is also available to rent within the park.

  • Columbia Park - 800 Columbia Parkway, Minneapolis, MN 55418
This 181-acre park with a well-maintained golf course is one of our favorite picnic destinations. Columbia Park's main shelter can host 125 people, or smaller groups can take advantage of wide-open lawns, public picnic tables, and grills. After your meal, hike on the walking trails or hit some golf balls at the driving range.

  • Summit Overlook Park -  418 Summit Ave., St. Paul, MN 55102
You'll have a hard time finding a park with better views of the city than this St. Paul gem. Summit Overlook Park is a grassy park that overlooks the High Bridge, downtown, and the West Side. The views offer the perfect backdrop to a relaxing afternoon. Summit Overlook Park is also known for its Bronze New York Eagle statue, created in 1890.

Beautiful weather combined with pristine parks makes summertime in the Twin Cities our favorite time of year. Call today if you're ready to start looking for your new home.
