Kayaking Destinations - Twin Cities, MN | Counselor Realty

Minnesota is often referred to as the Land of 10,000 Lakes. But it's also the land of rivers, ponds, and streams, many of which offer phenomenal kayaking opportunities within just a few miles of our Minneapolis homes for sale. With places like the Mississippi River and Lake Minnetonka right in our backyard, you'll have no trouble finding a place to launch your kayak. If you're in the neighborhood looking at St. Paul homes for sale, leave yourself time to do some paddling at these great kayak spots in the Twin Cities!

  • Mississippi Gateway Regional Park - 10360 W. River Road, Brooklyn Park, MN 55444
Located in the Minneapolis suburb of Brooklyn Park, Mississippi Gateway Regional Park is a picture-perfect place to put your kayak in the water. The park has easy access to a beautiful, tree-lined stretch of river below Coon Rapids Dam. In addition to a launch site with ample parking, Mississippi Gateway Regional Park also has a Paddle Share station, where you can rent a kayak and return it to any other Paddle Share station throughout the Twin Cities.

  • Boom Island Park - 724 Sibley St. NE, Minneapolis, MN 55413
The charming Boom Island Park is located on the Mississippi River in Minneapolis, 8.5 river miles below Mississippi Gateway Regional Park. It also has a Paddle Share station, making it the ideal endpoint for a paddling trip starting at the former park. But it's also a great place to launch a kayak and enjoy this more urban section of the river, which features excellent views of the Minneapolis skyline and the Boom Island Lighthouse.

  • Lilydale Regional Park - 950 Lilydale Road, St. Paul, MN 55118
St. Paul's Lilydale Regional Park is a picturesque park just minutes from the heart of the city. The park offers boat launch facilities and kayak rentals on 108-acre Pickerel Lake, a Mississippi River oxbow lake located completely within the park boundaries. The lake is dotted with lily pads in summer and also offers excellent fishing for bass, northern pike, and panfish.

  • Minneapolis Chain of Lakes - Lake of the Isles Parkway E, Minneapolis, MN 55405
The five interconnected lakes known as the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes offer an urban oasis just minutes from Downtown Minneapolis. There are multiple places to start paddling here, but the canoe launch at the north end of Lake of the Isles is ideal, with great facilities and access to a beautiful stretch of water.

  • Como Lake - 1360 Lexington Parkway N, St. Paul, MN 55103
A quiet 68-acre lake in St. Paul, Como Lake is restricted to use by cartop boats only, allowing kayakers to enjoy the water without competition from larger, noisier craft. It's also a good fishing lake, especially for bluegill. Wheel Fun Rentals offers canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddle boards for rent at Como Lake.

  • Lake Minnetonka Regional Park - 4610 County Road 44, Minnetrista, MN 55364
One of the most famous lakes in the Twin Cities, Lake Minnetonka is a beautiful body of water but mostly surrounded by privately owned land. Fortunately, there's great access at the west end of the lake at Lake Minnetonka Regional Park, and if you're in the area looking at Minnetonka homes for sale, this is a great place to paddle. This is a larger lake that can get choppy at times, so use caution.
