Guest Room Update - Homeowners - Counselor Realty

A stylish, inviting guest room is an excellent way to ensure your guests feel welcome and comfortable when staying in your home. If your guest room is overdue for an update or you want to make sure your home stands out from other Minnetonka homes for sale, here are a few things you need to create a fantastic space for your guests.

  1. Neutral Decor
Your guest room isn't the space to utilize bright, loud patterns or decor that caters to your unique style. Instead, opt for decor that will appeal to a wider variety of tastes. Keep personal knickknacks to a minimum, and look for colors and textures that are universally appealing.

This doesn't mean that your guest room can't reflect your tastes at all; instead of having the whole room outfitted with decor that suits your style, consider using bold pieces sparingly.

For example, if you love bright polka dots, instead of using polka dot bedding, use coasters or a vase with a polka dot pattern.

  2. Storage Space
Living out of a suitcase is uncomfortable, a hassle, and likely to lead to wrinkly clothes. Make sure that your guests can hang or fold their items by providing closet space (don't forget to include clothes hangers) or a dresser with empty drawers.

  3. A Workspace
A workspace is a convenient addition to any guest room, even if your guests won't be working.

Your guests may want to read, pay their bills, write in a journal, or go over their plans for their visit; a desk or small table is an excellent space to do so.

Consider including basic items that your guests may need when working or tending to personal matters, like pens, a notebook, and a charging station for mobile devices and accessories.

  4. A Spot for Snacks and Beverages
See that your guest room has a spot for guests to stow a few snacks and drinks. This ensures they don't have to trek through your home in the middle of the night if they're thirsty or want a bedtime snack.

Put out a basket with items such as fruit, pastries, bagged chips and crackers, and beef jerky. If space permits, a small mini-fridge is a terrific way to keep a couple of cans of soda or bottles of water cold.

  5. Fresh Flowers and House Plants
A vase of fresh flowers and a couple of small house plants are an easy way to make your guest room more inviting and homey for your guests. If you plan to list your home with other Rochester homes for sale, flowers and plants will also make your home more appealing to prospective homebuyers.

It only takes a few small changes to create an updated guestroom that's ready to welcome your house guests. Interested in buying a home with more space for your family and friends? Call today to get started.
