Remodeling Projects - Home Improvement - Counselor Realty

Did you know that March is National Craft Month? If you're getting stir crazy from being inside all winter, but the weather isn't quite nice enough to head outdoors, pour your pent-up energy into crafting. Especially if you're planning on listing your home this year, you can put your crafting effort toward fixing up your home and copying some of the trendy looks found in Victoria homes for sale.

  • Get creative with a chalkboard-painted wall.
Chalkboard paint is great for making a chalkboard out of just about anything, even your own walls. You'll find chalkboard painted walls in kitchens, mudrooms, and kids' rooms or playrooms. You can paint the entire wall if you desire or find a narrow wall that isn't useful for anything else. If you decide to paint just part of a wall, mount trim around it to delineate the borders and give your chalkboard a finished look.

  • Stencil the walls.
Another fun project you can do with paint is picking a wall and creating an accent wall by painting it with a repeating stencil. Stenciling can give you the look of trendy painted wallpaper without the expense. This is a great time to let your personality shine, but if you're selling your home soon, remember to opt for neutral colors and themes to avoid inadvertently turning any potential buyers away.

  • Build a window seat.
Everyone loves the look of built-in touches like window seats. Fortunately, an easy storage window seat isn't too hard to construct. Some supports, open shelving to hold storage bins, a little paint and a cushion for the seat will go a long way toward creating that quaint built-in look. This is also a great way to transform a little alcove or an unneeded closet into a reading nook.

  • Make a mudroom.
If you browse White Bear Lake homes for sale, you will quickly see that mudrooms are popular in new and remodeled homes. A mudroom gives everyone in the house a place to stash coats, shoes, backpacks, and more. If you don't have a mudroom, make one yourself by carving out a space and installing pre-fab cubbies, shelving, and coat racks.

  • Announce your house number in style.
You can instantly improve your curb appeal with a house number that does double duty. Modern numbers that are clearly seen and easy to read from the street will do a lot for your curb appeal. Make your house number both attractive and easy to find by mounting it on a large planter that you keep full of seasonal plants and decor.

  • Add bistro lights to any outdoor space.
Bistro lights are a great addition to any patio or outdoor living space, but sometimes there isn't a clear way to mount them. Time to get crafty! Big planters, such as those classic wooden barrel planters, can be half-filled with concrete to put up a post to hang bistro lights and then topped with dirt and plants for a finished look.

Even if you don't think you're crafty, there are a lot of project ideas online with clear instructions to help you out. To find out more about easy projects that can improve the look of your home before you sell, call today and set up a meeting with one of our helpful agents.
