Twin Cities Running Trails

National Running Day is June 5th! With winter in the rearview, it's time to take advantage of the warm weather and spend as much time as possible enjoying the outdoors. Minneapolis has plenty to see and do, why not take part in National Running Day and explore a new area of the city? Sprint passed charming Minneapolis homes for sale in the trendiest neighborhoods or soak up the sun with a run along the riverside. Tackle one of these great urban running paths and discover a new side to the Twin Cities.

  • Stone Arch Bridge – 100 Portland Ave., Minneapolis, MN 55401
Of course, you're already familiar the iconic Stone Arch Bridge but have you ever taken a day to enjoy a run through the beautiful parks on either end of the bridge? We suggest heading downtown and warming up at Gold Medal Park. When you're feeling loose, head across the bridge and follow the trails to either Father Hennepin Bluff Park or even to Water Power Park to see Saint Anthony Falls.

  • Chain of Lakes – 2101 W. Franklin Ave., Minneapolis, MN 55405
Another popular route that you've heard of so many times but likely haven't had the chance to check out, the Chain of Lakes route is perfect if you're looking to fill your lungs and clear your head. We suggest beginning at Kenwood Park where you can start the trail around the Lake of the Isles. Run the lake in either direction then connect over to Bde Maka Ska Park and keep running. Finally, keep following the trail through Berry Park and loop Lake Harriet before heading back to the starting line at Kenwood.

  • Hiawatha LRT Trail – 4800 S. Minnehaha Dr., Minneapolis, MN 55417
Interested a race for National Running Day? Try racing the light rail on the Hiawatha LRT Trail. Start over by the historic Longfellow House and head north along the trail. Run as fast and as far as you want — simply jump on the light rail whenever you're ready to head back.

  • Summit Avenue – 30 N Mississippi River Blvd., St. Paul, MN 55104
Head to the other side of the river and see what Minneapolis' sister city has to offer. Summit Avenue is a great street that takes you from the Mississippi River into downtown. Start at Shadow Falls Park, and you'll run passed Saint Paul homes for sale, eventually running into the State Capitol. This urban route is a great change of scenery for those looking for a change of pace.

  • Swede Hollow Park – 603 E North St., St. Paul, MN 55106
Stay on the Saint Paul side to create a fun run with a mix of nature and metropolitan views. Swede Hollow Park has a beautiful forest trail that will make you feel miles away from the big city. Modify your run and continue around the Metropolitan State University campus. Reward yourself with a cup of coffee at the Swede Hollow Café or a frothy brew at Saint Paul Brewing at the north end of Swede Hollow Park.
