St. Cloud, Minnesota is the perfect place to make your mark outside the Twin Cities. Homes in Saint Cloud appeal to Millennials, established professionals, and families.
With a population around 67,000, St. Cloud is the state's 10th-largest city: It's the perfect mid-sized option for those who want high-class amenities along with community. Like many other major cities in Minneapolis, its history dates to the 1800s. It was founded in 1856 and named after the city of Saint-Cloud in France.
Although it stands just 65 miles from the Twin Cities, Saint Cloud has a character all its own. This is created, in part, by prestigious Saint Cloud University: The third-largest public university in the state.
St. Cloud has been The Granite City since practically the beginning and still has many active quarries today. Every year, residents get together to celebrate its heritage and all the city means to them with St. Cloud Granite City Days.
Granite City Days is a unique tradition that strives to capture the spirit of St. Cloud.
With opening ceremonies on Thursday, June 21 and running all through the weekend, 2018's Granite City Days promises a spectacle in keeping with the best of past years. Each day offers special events, but most festival-goers – young and old – look forward to the parade most of all.
Granite City Days (GCD) Parade launches 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 23 right in downtown St. Cloud. It attracts a range of community groups who sponsor floats, banners, marching bands, and much more – though the St. Cloud Morning Optimist Club is the #1 sponsor.
Visitors and locals alike are sure to feel optimistic about St. Cloud when they see an outstanding parade that welcomes participants of all ages and backgrounds. But that's not the whole story: Granite City Days is just packed with surprises!
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will see live music from the likes of The Buckinghams, Herman's Hermits, B.J. Thomas, and Radio Nation. Many of the performers will also be on hand to offer encouragement to applicants who want to join Saturday's St. Cloud Signing Competition.
And even that isn't all ... not by a long shot!
The annual Lake George Fishing Derby and Outdoor Expo hit the water on Sunday. The event is free. Bait and fishing gear will be available for the public to use, but don't forget to bring a fishing license for participants 16 and over! The casting contest welcomes all anglers, and there's also an archery shooting competition. When it comes to fun, it's sure to hit the mark!
Family Fun Day will also be taking place at the same time right on the shores of Lake George.
Last, but not least, there's the Medallion Hunt ...
No Granite City Days celebration is complete without this clever contest, which actually gets rolling as soon as things kick off on Thursday morning. Every morning at 6 a.m., new clues are published online at the SC Times.
Participants will find themselves visiting city parks all throughout St. Cloud as they look for the hidden medallion. No climbing or digging is necessary, but you have to "rise" to the challenge of choosing the right parks – out of the 96 in St. Cloud.
If you find the granite medallion, you'll win a prize of $500.
Of course, the greatest prize is already in reach – living in St. Cloud!
