Update Ceilings - Sell a Home - Counselor Realty

Readying your home for sale is something you can't possibly achieve in a weekend. It takes a lot of work – both inside and outside – in terms of paintwork, decluttering, and finding the right real estate agency to seal the deal. Fortunately, our real estate agents have pieced together critical things that you should consider when setting up Minneapolis homes for sale.

  • Revamp Your Ceiling
Old ceiling designs such as popcorn ceiling can make selling your property more difficult, depending on your market and price range. When you're preparing to sell your home fast, it's important to give the ceiling a fresh coat of paint. Make sure the paint is specifically designed for ceilings to effectively hide imperfections or hairline cracks that can occur in ceilings over time.

For special rooms that require vibrant colors instead of the generic white, you can opt for premium wall paints. You'll get the full benefits of ceiling paints while achieving a better and truer color tint. This works well if you're using a monochromatic color in the room and want the ceiling to be slightly lighter or darker than the wall color.

What Influences Home Value

You may consider your Twin Cities home to be priceless, but in reality, a number of specific factors affect market value. While some are out of your control, there are proactive ways to make your home more attractive to buyers. Our real estate agents review five significant elements impacting your home's potential selling price.

  1. Neighborhood
"Location, location, location" is the classic real estate mantra. Sometimes the location is relative, such as the distance of your work commute, but as it applies to home prices, the term "location" is more universal. Proximity to quality schools, plentiful job opportunities, and entertainment and cultural amenities provides a major boost to a home's value. "Comps," the selling price of recently sold homes in your neighborhood, provide a ballpark figure as to what you might expect to get for your home.

Counselor Sell Your Vacant Home
According to John Lennon, "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans." In a perfect world, the sale of your current home would coincide with the timetable for your move, but circumstances don't always cooperate. Our real estate agents share their top six tips for selling a vacant home after you've already relocated.

  1. Notify the Neighbors
Explain to your neighbors that you'll be moving, but your vacant home will still be up for sale. Most people will be happy to keep an eye out for suspicious activity and contact the authorities if they notice anything amiss. If your community has a formal neighborhood watch organization, share the information with group leaders as well.

Selling Your Home Tips

When it's time to sell your home, storage units can be a real lifesaver. Whether you opt for a traditional or portable storage unit, either type helps you declutter your home, stage it, and serves as a place to "stash" your belongings while you're in the process of moving to a new home.

Selling Your Home in the Twin Cities

  1. Declutter Your Home
Our real estate agents have helped any number of home sellers in the Twin Cities.  The item that tops of the list nearly every home seller is:  Declutter.   Just about everyone has things they can get rid of or at least pack up. There are things you don't need, don't use, have never used, and stuff that just needs to be thrown out.

Removing these items makes your home seem bigger. Less clutter means more space. A good rule of thumb is to remove at least one-third of the items in your home. Buyers want a home with storage space--ridding your garage, basement, and closets will make a real difference. It'll be easy to get rid of many of those items, but there will be some you're not sure what to do with, want to keep, or plan on selling later. And those are the perfect things for a storage unit.
